Voice & data cabling

What are the set-up options for internal networks?

For internal computer communications companies can choose either wired or wireless connections. These can be mixed-and-matched according to individual requirements.

Wireless communications are now available with speeds of up to 108mbs.
Wired communications are available at ten times that speed – 1000mbs.

One important aspect is to ensure that security is properly enabled by using a password accessing system. This will reduce the threat from hackers.

A structured Cat 5 cabling environment is the most flexible cabling solution for most organisations. An adapter changes the use from either voice to data connection points. All wires are terminated into faceplates either on the floor or around the walls, the appearance of all the outlets is the same. It’s an elegant looking solution.

By using a simple colour coding arrangement so each cable can be easily identified between voice or data this makes the whole process of implementation of equipment simple and straightforward.

To modifications the outlets easily a secure patch panel is installed. As this is the location of all the cabling it is also an ideal place to locate the telephone system, broadband connection and server computers. Ideally a clean power supply or ring main at this point would be highly recommended. In the event of power outage (power cuts, surges etc.), Battery Backup Units which ensure a smooth power supply and safe shutdown of critical server equipment. should also be located at this point.
